Beyond Yourself

This piece was composed specially for Ballet Repertory Theatre and premiered in their Fall Festival 2018. A phrase commonly used in rehearsals, "Beyond Yourself", refers to what Christopher Sellars asks of his dancers. Stretching your movement and going beyond yourself, however, does not apply only to dance. Sellars uses these themes of perseverance to carry his dancers through seasons of change throughout the course of this dance work. The projection design is inspired by the yearly seasonal changes in weather and foliage, and utilizes green screen dance in order to incorporate the dancers themselves into the design.
